Photographer's Note

Without a doubt, the great attraction of Montreux and one of the Swiss places of "have to" visit, is the Château de Chillon. The fortress, dated from the XIII century, is in the water in Vayteux, less than three kilometers de Montreux. It was built on a rocky island, on top of roman ruins and its construction directed by the duque Pedro de Saboya, with the support of english military architects. During long time it was a prison and one of its most famous prisioners was Francisco Bonivard. He expended six years in this prison, most of the time, chained to a column in the basement.

During his stay at Montreux, lord Byron visited Chillon; its enchantment and spooky story of Bonivard, inspired him the famous poem "The Prisoner of Chillon".

Today, the castle is restored in a very convincing manner, with tapestry and decorative elements of that time in history.

It is a gorgeous and romantic place, as beautiful as its surrounding. A totally "must see" place. Enjoy!.
