Another photo from my trip to south-west Switzerland showing Geneva Lake with passenger cruise ship “Vevey” passing by Château de Chillon (Chillon Castle) during busy summer day.

Pleasure cruise ship excursions on Lake Geneva’s boats offer one of the best ways to explore the beauty of the Lac Léman (Geneva Lake) region in western Switzerland. Cruise ships are available every day in addition to the regular passenger ferry boats crossing the lake to connect Swiss and French cities.

Geneva, Nyon, Lausanne, and Vevey are good cities to depart on boat cruises with many boats also passing the Lavaux area and calling at Montreux and Chillon.
Lunch and dinner cruises are popular and may require advance reservations. Historic paddle steamers are used on some routes. Except for special dinner cruises, passengers can choose any of the ports of call to start and end pleasure cruises.

Chillon Castle, an island castle, is an architectural jewel located in the most beautiful setting imaginable - on the shores of Lake Geneva, right at the foot of the Alps.

This monument with over 1'000 years of history, has always inspired artists and writers, from Jean-Jacques Rousseau to Victor Hugo and Lord Byron, from Delacroix to Courbet.

The Castle Chillon was never taken in a siege, but did change hands through treaties. It is amongst the most visited castles in Switzerland and Europe.
