Photographer's Note

Mt Titlis (3238 m) is easily accessed by three cable cars from the town of Engelberg, which can be reached by train from Luzern. At the top station of the third cable car, near the summit, you can see views like this across the Swiss Alps. Looking to the south we see the two pointed peaks of the Fleckistock (3417 m) on the left and the Sustenhorn (3503 m) on the right. In the centre a large tongue of a glacier protrudes out over the rocks.

The infrastructure in Switzerland is so good that I could go from my hotel room in Luzern (33 km away) to the top of this alpine peak without using private transport. The Swiss are masters of technology and organisation, but they don't make a big deal of it; they just get on with the job.
