Photographer's Note
Château de Gruyères (Wikipedia)
The castle was constructed between 1270 and 1282 in the typical square plan of the fortifications in Savoy. The end of the 15th century stands out as the golden age in the history of the counts. In 1476, count Louis takes part in the Burgundy war by the Confederates’ side. Following this deed of valour, modernization works were undertaken. The adjustment of the esplanade with its chapel, the spiral staircase in the courtyard and the transformation of the main building go back to that time. Thus, the castle loses its fortress appearance to become a stately residence.

Hello Trevor,
The upwards point of view captures the château in its dominant position, setting it in context. I also like the layered effect it engenders. Good colours and clarity in spite of the inclement weather.

Hello Trevor,
Thank you very much for your interesting note, I learn something new everyday on TE.
The castle high on the top of the mountain is perfect photographed.
Depth and perspective are pleasant.
An excellent composition, lovely presentation too.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice Sunday,
John

Hej Trevor,
Gert

Hello Trevor
I'm honoured, given your comment of a few weeks ago about how pushed you were for time and thus would be writing few critiques for a while, actually to have received one! But you've still got time to post, I'm glad to see. This recent Autumnal shot is nicely composed, with the tree partially framing the view of the impressive castle on its bluff. The sheep make the château somewhat more domestic, perhaps. And hey: the colours appear natural, subtle, even subdued!
Regards
Will
P.S. Hope you ate plenty of cheese!

Ciao Trevor
Ottima prova e bella interpretazione.
Saluti
Carlo

Hello Trevor,
There are some lovely harmonious colours in this photo. I like your low viewpoint and the way that the tree partly frames the chateau. Very good clarity and exposure - like it a lot.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hi Trevor
I personally enjoy it more when these castles still have a bit of a 'rustic' look and style to them, and I think thats where this one stands.
It doesn't look "TOO" remodeled if you know what i mean.
beautiful piece of architecture, try to imagine how it looked back in the 1200's! wow! If only we had a time machine :)
good use of the fall colors to bring a unique style to the subject
cheers

Hello Trevor,
I particularly like how you have included the tree in your f/g, it almost signals the way to the castle and creates a great sense of depth. The colours are nicely saturated. A very pleasing photograph.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
