Photographer's Note

Following my previous posting, here’s a view from inside Schloss Bottmingen, taken on my fourth visit to the place during the “Blue Hour” – which here lasted about ten minutes so I had to work quickly and hence the numerous revisits! The cosy lights inside are from the restaurant. Perhaps not my best shot and the overall quality is a bit grainy as I had to increase the ISO to 800, then had to play around with the levels significantly to improve the exposure. Although I had a tripod with me I decided not to bother using it. Apart from it being extremely cold for fiddling with a tripod, there was a constant stream of people crossing the courtyard and lingering in the middle (- seemed like there was some kind of dog-walkers’ convention going on, with the number of people and dogs!), so I kept moving around myself trying to frame and shoot quickly without people.

The converging verticals are of course due to the very wide angle lens, and here I was trying to use the distortion to lead the eye upwards to the light decorations which also converge in the centre.
