Photographer's Note

Since it’s only a week till Christmas here’s a festive scene. This is Bottmingen Schloss, a local castle built in a fairytale style, complete with a moat and a bridge. It is now privately owned and is a rather smart restaurant. The original castle was built on the site in the 13th century by a now unknown family, then was burnt down in 1409 in a war with the neighbouring canton of Basel-Stadt before later being rebuilt with various modifications and additions being made over the centuries. It was substantially renovated in the 1990s to give this now pristine exterior, in typical Swiss style. In my next posting I’ll show a view from inside the door.

In this shot I placed my camera as low as I could, which made it a bit tricky to see through the viewfinder. After some while of crouching, I got up to find that I had been kneeling on what looked like a piece of squashed pizza!
