Photographer's Note

A shot taken 20 years ago. Adjusted & cleaned as best I could with PS CS2. I am not too happy with the result as I couldn't get rid of some brown stains on the water. But I hope you will still like it. Used NeatImage for noise reduction ... more on the sky as there were too many scratch marks & noise. The lower resolution scan made the task more difficult.

Schottensee (2335 m) is one of the five high alpine lakes on the "5-Seen-Wanderung" trail starting from:

Pizolhütte (2224 m) - Wangsersee (2493 m) - Schottensee (2335 m) - Schwarzsee (2368 m) - Baseggla - Baschalvasee (2174 m) - Gaffia (1861 m)

The five lakes walk actually begins in Wangs near Sargans. From there you go up in the cable-car to Furt and then on two chairlifts up to the Pizol mountain hut. The Wangsersee marks the start of the hike. After the first climb up through bizarre rock formations, you glimpse the Wildsee, surrounded by rubble and boulders. Next on the list is the deep blue Schottensee, with a magnificent panoramic view behind it, extending from the Glarner Alps to the Churfirsten range. Next you pass the dark Schwarzsee. A last climb leads up to a geo-park. Soon you come to the green Baschalvasee, and then a last descent leads down to the Gaffia Alp.
