Södermalm, late November, a photo from Sodermanland, Svealand

This is not the greatest photo I have posted here, but I think it represents Södermalm quite well:

An old wooden red cottage, a steep rock and an abandoned electric kickbike.

I took this photo yesterday during one of my regular walks on Södermalm island. I was walking quite fast to keep warm on a bright but windy day with a temperature of –5 °C. Occasionally I stopped briefly to take a photo.

This was at about 1:30 PM. The sun was getting low and the shadows were growing. On a cloudy day there would hardly have been enough light for any photos at all.

Södermalm is an island of steep hills providing good views of other parts of Stockholm, as I have shown you many times. Rock sides like this, where modern streets have been cut through the hills, are quite common.

I adjusted the shadows slightly, just to bring out more details of the rocks, otherwise I hardly did any post-processing, except sharpening and cropping a bit at the bottom. The afternoon light made the colours glow naturally.

The afternoon light was superb and has added a warm glow to the subject, despite the -5c temperature. Good sharpness and nice warm cold colour contrast. Tfs!

This is the time pf the year that the day light is finishing early. The point of view is showing the details of the red cottage and of the steep rock. The light Is bringing out the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Gert,
Low sun with bright light enhanced the details of the rock and wooden red hut built upon. Naked trees also made a nice animated theme upon the scene.
Green elec.scooter stand difference from the subject. Nice and unusual moment taken.

Hello Gert,
The falun red colour makes the contrast with the blue sky even more beautiful.
Thanks to the Falun mines, Sweden has been able to give an attractive colour to the living environment.
Where I live,houses usually have the red brick colour or are painted white. I always felt pleasantly surprised to see colourful homes in other countries.
I like the strong contrast between light and shadow.
The electric kick bikes are an undeniable part of the street scenes in Stockholm today :)
In this photo it fills nicely the right bottom corner.

Hi Gert, I suppose that I was not there, although it is not far from the Sofia church. Strange that such places are to be found close to the "normal" buildings. You had here wonderful evening light. The colours are fantastic.
We haven't had a frost yet.

a nice vertical compo, the colors are fabulous, it would be perfect if the whole house was illuminated by the sun. nice the layers of the compo. I guess I never faced minus 5 at noon..

Hello Gert,

Minus 5°Celsius, I am no winterman, but you picture want I see as a painting.
The green electric kickbike I think also to see on a previous picture.
You play wonderful with light, colours and shadows, real a painting.
An excellent composition, nice presentation too.

Hej Gert,
Det varme vinterlys er meget smukt og der er nogle smukke skygger også i venstre side. Men det er især det røde hus og træerne som står meget godt frem fra den blå himmel. Det grønne løbehjul (igen) er en god detalje.

I like the way you look at the
photos....you capture the details
and this is a reason I like every photo of yours...
a photo woth a contrast of different colors
at first the amazing blue,then the red of the
houses and finally the dark rock
on which shadows and lights play
perfectly together...
Is possible a small kid to have
forgotten this electric kickbike????

Hello Gert,

You mention all the features to be noted in your photograph! Of course the brightly coloured building is the key feature, almost counterbalanced by the tiny, green scooter but the light is very important, creating superb contrasts!

I like the atmosphere of this photo, the lights and the colours remind me to mood of the Wes Anderson movies or the short stories of Gyula Krúdy a famous Hungarian writer from the 19th century. Of course the e-scouter tells me that it is from the 21th century.

Hello Gert, I like the sunlight illuminating the rock wall and the house and fence above it, the colours seem to pop out of the screen.
The inevitable abandoned scooter, and in a lovely bright shade of green!
The bare trees look good against the blue sky.

Lights and shadows in this curious composition, where the color is very attractive, these shades of the sun are very typical of autumn days, almost winter now, daring the color of the cottage.

Hallo Gert
The autumnal mood is quite evident in your image, due to the orange-coloured sunlight taking the main role for this seasonal capture of an edged apart block of stone, host of naked trees and surface roots.
The red house is beautifully balanced vertically by the imaginary diagonal line uniting it to the tiny green 'critter' seaming out of breath downhill!
Your tweaks come in handy for a pleasing tableau.

Not your usual street photo, except... there is this kickbike again - they appear in your images more and more often. ;-)
I love the graphic qualities of this photo, big blocks of saturated colour. The light is fantastic.
