Photographer's Note

Another shot of the farmers houses in Skansen Historic Park & Zoo. I am not sure if they are Swedish or Norwegian. The original houses were transported / reassembled to this open air museum from all over Norway and Sweden. I have added a faint blue sky to the white oe sky. Apparently the turf and grass fern covered roof acts as insulation, keeping the inside much warmer in winter and cooler in summer. In the bg is the red wooden Seglora Kyrka.

Seen here are buildings from the mining district in Västmanland. The superior furnishing in the bergsman´s farmstead bears witness to the social position of the iron master, between that of farmers and the gentry. "The Bergsman and his household were mining peasants. They had special privileges, for example the mining peasants had exclusive property rights to their land during a long period of time. In return they had to produce pig-iron for the Swedish state. The pig-iron was transformed into bar-iron at the ironworks."
