Photographer's Note

Stockholm a few days ago. There are still no obvious signs that winter is loosening its grip on Scandinavia. The days are getting longer, but it's still very cold and everything is covered in snow.

This picture shows Södermalm island in central Stockholm and a solidly frozen part of lake Mälaren. A short distance to the left, outside the photo, are the sluices where Mälaren enters the Baltic sea. Even large parts of the sea are now covered by ice. Yesterday about 50 ships got stuck and had to wait for ice-breakers to rescue them. Several ferries carrying thousands of passengers were among those that were delayed for many hours because of the ice. Today at least 30 cargo ships are still waiting. Some of them have been stuck for days.

In a workshop is a photo where I basically just turned right and pointed my camera towards the Old town, Gamla stan.
