Photographer's Note

Västerås is a city in central Sweden, located on the shore of Lake Mälaren, about 100 km west of Stockholm.
It is one of Sweden´s oldest cities.

You see a true street, not a a heritage park! These old houses are painted in Falun Red (Falu Rödfärg), the paint which originated from the copper mine at Falun in Sweden. The traditional colour remains popular today due to its effectiveness in preserving wood.

I have read that for many Swedes Falun Red painted houses set in perfect harmony amidst the green forests of Sweden are as much a symbol of the country as ABBA and Ikea.
