Photographer's Note
This is a Common Pochard (Aythya ferina) which is a diving duck. As usual the photo is taken in the area along the Fyris River south of Uppsala. This is not the river itself but a small lake/pond. The grey relections on the water are bare trees.
This is a male. Males have rost coloured heads and necks and in spring bright red eyes.Females are brown. It is a medium-sized duck of length of 42-49 cm. Despite its name is not very Common in Sweden. About 1000 breading pair in Sweden. The Common Pochard feed mainly by diving. They eat aquatic plants, molluscs, insects and small fish. Common Pochards are migratory and spend winter in Southern and Western Europe.

Hej Ulf,

Good evening Ulf,
Never knew there are so much of a difference between ducks, but it is notable on this picture, I can make the distinction.
Fine brown color of its head, reflection on water and the marvelous grey/blue tones.
And the great culmination of your photo is the water-drops that remain on its feathers. (could not find a better phrase about.)
Best regards,
Ike

Hi Ulf,
Lovely reflection and therefore I think you should have named the picture ´”Common Pochards” or in Dutch: Tafeleenden, (tableducks?) They also live in Holland although I can remember that I ever saw one.
Groet Rob
