Photographer's Note

In the City park of Uppsala there are a couple of tall Caucasian wingnut trees (Pterocarya fraxinifolia). A Caucasian wing nut tree could be come 15-20 meters high and is native to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Russia, and Turkey. In Western Europe you often find it in parks. These particular trees seem to be favorite trees for about 10-15 species of birds. Since many people pass the trees birds seem to less shy which make them easier to photograph than normal.

This is a Eurasian Tree Sparrow (Passer montanus), a bird in the sparrow family. The Euasian Tree Sparrow breeds over most of temperate Eurasia and Southeast Asia.

In Sweden the northern border of this sparrow’s extension runs through the north of the province Värmland and the middle of Dalarna. Beyond that border the sparrow is less frequent.
