Photographer's Note

This is the Swan pond in Uppsala a few months after it was an ice skating ground during the ice festival in February See here The pond was part of the castle garden in the 16th century and probably a carp pond. There is actually one or another carp in the pond also today. Otherwise there are a lot of birds in the pond. Mostly ducks but also a swan. In the pond there is a small island that acts as a protection and breeding area for birds. The Uppsala Castle on top of the hill was originally built during King Gustavus Wasa’s reign in the 16th century. The castle has undergone many changes since then. Today it is the residence of the governor. There are also some museums in the castle.
