Photographer's Note
I had planned to finish my theme of red 18th century wooden cottages on Södermalm island with my latest upload. But when I found some interesting information about these buildings I decided to extend the series.
Today's photo was taken a few minutes before this one, that I showed a week ago:
https://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Sweden/Svealand/Sodermanland/Stockholm/photo1594356.htm
I will post a WS taken at the far end of that long building, showing you how close these buildings are.
Usually it is possible to find information on the internet of peoples' addresses in Sweden, or who are living at a certain address (unless individuals have chosen to have themselves removed from commercial sites). But in this case I was surprised to find nothing. I discovered that nobody is allowed to live in these cottages, possibly because the facilities are still almost at an 18th century level. There is electricity and heating, but no toilet and apparently no water inside. Instead companies, or individuals, can lease them for a specific period, preferably using them for some kind of cultural activity, like a writer's studio or a film producer's office. They remain the property of the same municipal housing company as nearly all other culturally listed buildings in the city.
I found an advertisement, probably from 2019, from a real estate agent working on behalf of the city inviting tenders for a three-year lease. To my delight there were lots of photos from inside the buildings, and from the garden. It should be worth the small trouble to take a look. It's all in Swedish, but the photos speak for themselves:
https://master.mspecsweb.se/sites/broker233/?page_id=6&type=deal&deal_id=MDIzM3wwMDAwMDAwMDU2OHw1OA..
In today's photo you also get a glimpse of the Baltic Sea and one of the large ferries or cruise ships probably bound for Finland. The hill to the right of the ship marks the easternmost tip of Södermalm and the end of Stockholm city. At the top of the hill is an 18th century building used today as a café and brunch restaurant. Further to the right you see the beginning of the next town, Nacka, a separate municipality but regarded as part of metropolitan Stockholm, along with at least half a dozen other towns. The bridge is for a local railway going between Slussen on Södermalm and the rather posh suburb of Saltsjöbaden (= Salt sea baths).

Hello Gert,
A good take from a high point in the island, we get to see the trail and red wooden row-houses, and a big vessel by the waterway, a bridge painted grey and the city skyline on the far distance.
Must be a wonderful sight in summer when trees would have green foliage.
A fine outcome, cheers.

Hello Gert,
I might have to revisit my Swedish archives and see if I can spot an image featuring red for the theme. A good downward pov with nice shadow play from the sidelight coming from the right. Tfs!

Hello Gert, there is so much to enjoy in this view today.
The elevated point of view is excellent. You describe all the features very clearly.
The red wooden cottages are so photogenic.
I was surprised at how close to the sea you are here. The cruise ship looks enormous.
Excellent sharpness.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Gert,
The suite of the wooden stairs is giving dynamism to the scene. The point of view is showing the details of the wooden cottages. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hej Gert,
Again a fascinating row of red houses, this time with a view down the hill. And again small details make this interesting. Wider view gives a good idea of this place in a city but away from the crowds.

Hej Gert,
Husene er virkeligt meget charmerende, ligesom ejendomsmægleren også siger og der er desuden et udendørs toilet med udsigt over Stockholm. :-) Du fangede husene fra en et godt og højt punkt med vejen, bakken og skibet i baggrunden.

Hello Gert, You inspired me :). I saw these nice stairs when I walked virtually after your other photos. Excellent composition, as we see not only the houses with the trees on top and the bridge (but no lady in red). The interiors are really delightful like taken from Skansen or a museum.
Wonderful light and colours, attractive shadows.
Best regards Malgo

Hi dear Gert, How are you?
For me it is incredible and quite fantastic for me that 18th centuries wooden architectures are restored completely. In Japan that is quite impossible. It is a little pity that this posting seems to be the last one. As usual stable and so eye-catching posting from you.
All the best and have a good day! Takero from Tokyo

Hi Gert,
nice red cottages, well framed from a good angle and with perspective effect, good light, ideal for the presentation of this traditionnal red tone, good effect too with shades of fence o the right side, tfs.

Your interesting note prompted me to take a look at the inside and in turn made me wish that I could be in there with my camera.
A well chosen PoV to capture the cottages in their modern day environment with the huge ferries floating pass.

Hello Gert,
It was worth extending your theme to include today's photographs. These old, wooden buildings look so good painted with this rich, deep red; they exude a sort of warmth.
You had a good viewpoint from the top of those steps, giving an angled composition to the buildings, which converge with the wooden steps, not painted red but but exhibiting some fine shadow patterns.
I'm glad you explained the presence of the ferry. It made me smile with just a glimpse of it, seeming to be peeping surreptitiously from behind the hill!
I like this shot for its sharpness, its fine colours and good composition.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Dear Gert,
Its a worthy finishing of this series. The POV is excellent to show the cottages and the wider neigbourhood. Even a great cruise ship, a tower of some building, a church tower and a bridge fits into the composition. It goes to my favoruites.
Best Wishes,
Gy.

Hi Gert
I will try to post a new photo later tonight.
When I viewed this one, my initial reaction was...Gert bought a drone! haha...but no, I doubt that would happen :) I wonder what the reaction would be if I used a drone in the city here.
another fine note to accompany the scene, if there' no toilet, I wonder where the Outhouses are, they had to use the Bathroom somewhere nearby. Its great actually, that they're untouched, good to hear that, they keep their originality I guess. The cruise ship is an interesting addition, makes me wonder how the entire cruise ship industry will evolve over the next few years, its taken a HUGE drop. anyways...thanks for this fun shot
cheers

Hello Gert,
By looking at the map, you were not that far from the previous photo a week ago.
Ha!ha! I could imagine you standing at the top...clicking away with your camera.
I must admit that you've a fine crispy photo with wonderful sunlight, enhancing the Falu red even more prettier to look at. I do like the wooden steps ( railing shodows ) leading us down below. Of course, the view itself. What can I say, you've described it so beautifully in your note.
One thing for sure, the more I see them, the more I like to live in these red cottages. I did look at the link, the most interesting part of all......is the outdoor toilet!!! With Stockholm's best view :-)))
But it's a bit pricey for a three-year lease. If I'm not wrong , it's about 36000 euro :-(
But I don't mind renting it for a month ( -+ 1000 euro )by sharing of course. It's just a small thought :-)
Thanks for sharing this 'proud' Swedish Falu red Cottage.

Hello Gert,
This POV looking down on the cottages and wooden steps is very dynamic. I almost didn't even notice the huge cruise ship on the left! It's amazing that these cottages have survived in such an urban location. I like the shadows on the wooden walkway, too. Take care!

Hello Gert,
These houses look so beautiful!
Perhaps not so ideal to live in given the proximity of the highway.
The inclusion of the large ship at the top left tells us more about the location of Stockholm and this part of town.
I like the shadows of the fence on the wooden walkway.
Beautiful panorama picture with great sharpness and clarity.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Gert.
A wide and magnificent panorama, which places us very well on the ground these old and charming cottages, by the way, they seem to be located in a kind of hollow of the land, because in the background we see a hill and the photo seems that you have captured it from another height Similarly, now the sea is near, we see behind a ferry. Wonderful colors, soft tones, excellent sharpness and splendid light.
Very well done. I like very much.
Have a nice week.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hi Gert
Great picture of red houses disappearing into the middle distance and down the hill. I think you chose a good moment in the year when the trees a bare and they don't draw attention away from the buildings.
Thanks for the link, lovely to see the interiors as well, and even plans!
Have a nice week

Hello Gert,
These red cottages look so peaceful as opposed to the modern highway in the background.
