Lekeitio balconies, a photo from Vizcaya, Pais Vasco

Photographer's Note

Like many other coastal towns, the origin of Lekeitio is very humble, he was born on the banks of the estuary of Lea as sailor and fisherman village.

Given its location privilegiad, Dona Maria Diaz de Haro granted the charter-peopled founding in 1325. One of its major dedications was the whaling from the same population, but to reduce their number, had to chase them to Greenland, where they found cod banks. Furthermore inshore fishing was plentiful and all gave rise to a flourishing industry of canned and salted fish, which brought prosperity to the town.

The cessation of border clashes between the lords of the towers and ironworks, gave way in the fifteenth century to an era of prosperity, which attracted these gentlemen to the villages, where they built their towers and palaces. So in Lekeitio, to which the American trade will rectivar in seventeenth and eighteenth century, when the nobility rebuilds its baroque palaces. The final expansion of Lekeitio, came from the nineteenth century, when it became a summer resort become important.

Como tantas otras poblaciones costeras, el origen de Lekeitio es muy humilde, pues nació a orillas de la ria del Lea como pueblo marinero y pescador.

Dada su situación privilegiad, doña Maria Díaz de Haro le otorgó la carta-puebla de fundación en 1325. Una de sus dedicaciones importantes, fue la pesca de la ballena desde la misma población, pero al disminuir su número, tuvieron que perseguirlas hasta Groenlandia, donde encontraron bancos de bacalao. Además la pesca de bajura era abundante y todo ello dio origen, a una floreciente industria de conservas y salazón de pescado, que trajo consigo la prosperidad de la villa.

El cese de las luchas fronterizas, entre los señores de las torres y ferrerías, dio paso en el siglo XV a una época de prosperidad, que atrajo a dichos señores a las villas, donde construyeron sus torres y palacios. Asi sucede en Lekeitio, al que el comercio americano, volverá a rectivar en el siglo XVII y XVIII, momento en el que la nobleza vuelve a construir sus palacios barrocos. La definitiva expansión de Lekeitio, se produjo a partir del siglo XIX, cuando pasó a convertirse en lugar de veraneo importante.

una facciata caratterizzata da queste balconate molto interessanti dal punto di vista strutturale.
L'ottima luce e i colori del cielo e della facciata di destra, ne mettono in risalto l'architettura.

Ils ressemblent un petit peu aux célèbres galeries de Valetta. il doit y entrer beaucoup de lumière aux étages supérieures. Par contre l'ombre est reine sur la terrasse.

I love to see the clear separation of colours between the building and its surrounding, still a pleasant scene not lacking of interest as the significant identical shapes of the balconies draw attention making this shot. Effectively cropped this way by leaving put any possible distractions from main focal and your lighting control is seamless as usual. Fine capture, tfs
