Photographer's Note
The Cathedral of Murcia is a key piece of Spanish Baroque. It is one of the most important buildings in the city and, of course, the entire Region. It stands out for the amalgam of architectural styles that range from Gothic to Neoclassicism. Although its construction began in the late fourteenth century, the cover had to be modified and the space extended to the sixteenth century, so that the style of the main facade of the building ended up being Baroque.
One of the most appreciated parts of the cathedral is its tower. It has its own entity and has a peculiar history. What is currently replaced the previous one at the beginning of the sixteenth century and is Renaissance style. Both the Cathedral Museum and its chapels are of singular beauty. The museum is located in the old cloister of the Cathedral. There you can see paintings of the Italian trecento, paintings by Luca Giordano, and impressive sculptures by Francisco Salzillo.
Emblem of the city of Murcia and its Cathedral, wonder of which we can enjoy from almost any point of the municipality thanks to its 93 meters high, the tower is the second highest in all of Spain, second only to the Giralda of Seville.
Built between 1521 and 1793, Jacobo Florentino was commissioned to raise the first body, square plan, plateresque ornamentation and Renaissance style. After his death, Jerónimo Quijano continued with what would be the second body, where the Cathedral Archive was lodged to protect it from the continuous flooding of the Segura River.
This second body followed the same architectural style of its predecessor, although an excessive inclination motivated the works were paralyzed two centuries, from 1555 to 1765. It was then, after the eighteenth century Ecuador, when José López undertook the construction of the third body, which houses the clock room and is distinguished by its baroque style. The following body has four conjurators crowned by pyramidal domes with the effigies of the four saints of Cartagena and patrons of the Diocese: San Leandro, Isidoro, Fulgencio and Florentina. Finally, the tower was completed in 1793 after the construction of the rococo bell tower and the neoclassical dome of Ventura Rodríguez.
The bell tower has 20 majestic bells that once served to warn of floods, festivities and even wars. Currently, some of the touches have been maintained to preserve them as a heritage element of the city.

Hello Luis,
This façade is simply stunning and the persons standing in the square give us a sense of depth across the open area. The effect of the richly ornamented building is enhanced by the contrasts of light and shady areas. A strong three-dimensional sense is achieved by the light and the good contrasts. The photo is excellently exposed and very neatly cropped.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Luis,
This Baroque style of architecture reminds me of Lecce in southern Italy. You had a marvellous blue sky backdrop here. Good sharpness and punchy light contrasts. The people provide scale and animate the fg. Tfs!

Salut Luis,

Hola Luis,
amazing view! We have seen fragment of this view and now a wider scene with the tower in the distance.
This is a very impressive piece of architecture!
The side light was brilliant and well emphasized the details of the rich decorations. I like very much the foreground with people in the square making subtle silhouettes, also the pavement itself provides some diagonals.
What a beauty!
Excellent work!!

Bonjour, cher Luis,

Hello Luis,
It is a really impressive building with lots of decorations and details, which were all lit so beautifully by the bright sunshine. The people in the foreground not only provide scale, but also a good contrast thanks to the shades. Perfect sharpness and clarity.
