Photographer's Note
Time for the last picture from my jaunt to Madrid, Segovia and Avila in early March. So, very fitting that it comes from Madrid Airport, officially known as Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport. This was taken in Terminal 4.
Terminal 4, designed by Antonio Lamela, Richard Rogers and Luis Vidal, (winning team of the 2006 Stirling Prize) and TPS Engineers, (winning team of the 2006 IStructE Award for Commercial Structures) was built by Ferrovial and inaugurated on 5 February 2006.
Terminal 4 is one of the world's largest airport terminals in terms of area, with 760,000 square meters (8,180,572 square feet) in separate landside and airside structures. It consists of a main building, T4 (470,000 m²) and a satellite building, T4S (290,000 m²), which are approximately 2.5 km apart.
The new Terminal 4 is designed to give passengers a stress-free start to their journey. This is managed through careful use of illumination, with glass panes instead of walls and numerous skylights which allow natural light into the structure. With this new addition, Barajas is designed to handle 70 million passengers annually.

All being well, I shall be passing through Terminal 4 again in a few months time. So it's, 'Hasta la vista' rather than 'Adios'.

Hello Stephen,
This is a bright, modern structure.
I particularly like the roof and its green supporting structures.
It was a tough photograph, compositionally but you have found an excellent point from which to take the shot. The tall, metal support is strongly placed and, in association with the similarly coloured glass wall, acts like a funnel into the scene.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hi Stephen
Ultra modern interior like this is only common scene nowadays, works well with this treatment dramatised by human element. Nice grab.

Hello Stephen,
There are lots of architectural details that enabled you to create a very good depth. The well spread out people also did their best to assist you. Especially the young woman pulling her bag along is well placed in the foreground. I have really started to dislike airports, especially the very large ones, but this one doesn't look too bad. I think those green details and the curving ceiling may have something to do with that.
Regards,
Gert

Hi Stephen,
You have captured well the movement of the passengers. The point of view is showing the details of the modern design of Terminal 4 of Madrid-Barajas airport. The surrounding light us bringing out the colours. Have a nice day.

Bonjour Stephen,
Il y a beaucoup de choses à voir dans les aéroports. Souvent l'architecture est intéressante et c'est le cas au terminal 4 et aussi les gens, pressés ou non et inquiets ou non.

Hello Stephen
Your photo gives a beautiful impression of this terminal of the Madrid airport.
Funny the modern starting point to instruct the architects to design a space that promotes a stress-free start to the journey.
The choice for the fresh green is therefore certainly explained.
Excellent picture
Have a nice day, groet Rob

Hi Stephen
Isn't it funny how airports have become such important architectural wonders. They really weren't that way a couple decades ago - now when they're built its a competition to see which is the most modern, most creative, most beautiful, while still being functional. Another fine example of that here with the ceiling being creative. cheers

Airports as RR-stations always have a dynamic rythm, as you managed to show here, Stephen.
Looks as a modern terminal, iron and glassed structues, but people make the best attraction on such a scene.
Good afternoon,

Hello Stephen,
I like the repeating patterns of green. At airports, it is passport control and security that cause me stress, so unless they have done something special to them in this terminal, it would not be stress free for me, regardless of its architecture.
Regards,
MT
