Hello friends and colleagues, today I present the chapel of the castle of Baiona, an interesting place to visit with magnificent views of the river and the town of Baiona, I hope you like it, then some letters on this interesting castle.

The Castle of Baiona is a twelfth century fortress, which was completed in the sixteenth century, located in the town of Baiona Pontevedra. Also known as Fortaleza del Monte Boi.

Since 1966 has a Parador Nacional Conde de Gondomar. It has a great historical importance, since in March 1493 Martin Alonso Pinzon returned to the coast of Bayonne after his trip to America, making this villa the first in Europe that he heard the news of the discovery of the New World.

Mount Royal was a strategic point that was formed over the centuries defending the maritime territory of the Rias Baixas. Transforming the fortress town to the Catholic Monarchs granted that populates the respective Charter, that enabled two hundred families to settle within the walls, enjoying the same privileges as residents of Bayonne was due. Its period of greatest splendor happened in the fifteenth century-XVI, becoming a prosperous trading center, thanks to the privilege that John II of Castile granted to A Coruña Baiona and being the only Galician ports that could trade with foreign countries. The present appearance of the castle comes from the reconstruction carried out in the sixteenth century by Diego Sarmiento de Acuña, Count of Gondomar, who renamed it Monterreal Castle, in honor of the Catholic Monarchs. Within its walls there were events of great historical significance. In its structure, we can distinguish two periods, the medieval and the Renaissance, although the sun and had a fort or castellum in S. II BC In 60 BC, when Julius Caesar conquered Baiona, had to pursue the rebels to their shelters in the Cies Islands. Romans, Visigoths and Muslims left their mark on the castle. In 1331 the fort was attacked by the Portuguese fleet admiral Peñaza, Fernando I of Portugal fixing his residence in the castle. Also withstood attacks of the pirates Francis Drake, and saw the arrival on March 1, 1493 of the caravel La Pinta. In 1474, Pedro Madruga, after attacking Baiona, built a tower Monte Boi, of which traces still remain.
