Photographer's Note

This cosmopolitan beach resort has long attracted a different kind of tourist. In the late 19th-century it became the meeting-place for painters. Artist still come, fashionable Barcelonians flock here on weekends and gay tourists are drawn by its tolerant lifestyle. The setting is magnificent, a sucession of small beaches in the shadow of "La Punta", a rocky bluff overlooking the harbor. The headland is dominated by the 16th-century parish church, reached by a fly of steps from the promenade. Behind here is the oldest and most appealing part of town, with narrow streets, whitewashed cottages, flower-filled balconies and chic galleries, boutiques, restaurants and bars. When in Barcelona, this is a place to visit, just 25 km. outside de city, to the South. It is a beautiful place!
