Photographer's Note

I finally found my way back to TE after having been "off-line" for a couple of months and it's great to see these wonderful pictures again!

The subject of this picture must be one of the most photographed objects in Barcelona: the salamander of Gaudi in the famous Park GŁell. I was rather surprised not to find any picture of this statue in the files on TE, so I thought that I might give it a try.

The Park GŁell was named after a very rich industrialist that spent a lot of money on projects that were designed and run by Gaudi, so we must be very thankful for that! When the park was constructed, it was the intention that people would build houses in the park to live. But for some reason only three houses were built, so actually the project was a complete disaster!

This salamander is located at the stairs near the central entrance. Normally, it requires a lot of patience to takes pictures of it without groups of posing tourists. Today it was raining, so I didn't have to wait very long.

I tried to isolate the creature from its surroundings by using a short DOF and using the trees in the distance as background. The water running from its mouth looks almost like ice.
