Photographer's Note
In Barcelona as well as other cities, street actors - statues, hold their positions, use extensive makeup, and design elaborate costumes and settings ... in the hopes of a tip - a few coins from the passers by.
These statues (actors) hold very still, but when a coin is placed in a special cup they (come to life) and they act as you see here, a kind hand held out as a gesture of thanks, ... a photo op for a friend.
There were about 6 of these (statues) near the seaward end of Las Ramblas street a very popular tourist street in Barcelona. It must take hours of hard work to get into these extensive "costumes" and tough to hold still in the heat of day as thousands pass by. An interesting profession.
Hope I did justice to this one in action.

Hello david,
I have a lot respect for these street actors, this is not simple during half day in these pose and specially clothing.
Sharpness and clarity are real perfect, but try in future with a more blur background, this gives more effect on the statue.
Excellent captured and pleasant presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
I wish You a nice weekend,
John

Hi David,
A very strange profession, indeed! I wonder if it has anything to do with the current economic currents of that part of the world. Thank you for documenting this interesting profession so vividly.
Regards,
MT

Hi David.
Immediately recognisable as Barcelona, that silvery human sculpture on Las Ramblas. But you have captured it with a difference, and timed it well. I take John's point about the blurry background, but realise that you may not have time to adjust your aperture or focal length to get a shot like this at the right moment. I do like the angle of view, and the upturned eyes of the performer. The close crop is just right. Very well done.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi David
It is a strong shot, the sculpture and its admirer, that makes the shot tick. Pleasing action shot of daily ciry life. Well done
Warm regards

hello David ~
this is quite the incredible get-up! we have street performers here in my town of asheville (western north carolina) as well, but none so elaborately costumed as this!
you have done a good capture here ~ the expression on the face of the one character, the tilt of the head of the second character, and the body language of the lady ~ interesting that she withholds her left hand from the performers.
i will be barcelona-bound in september, so it's a treat to read your note and get an idea of what to expect. tfs ~

Beautiful neat picture. I like especially the eyes of the artist that somehow does not make me comfortable.
Greetings from the Valais
