The Arrabal de San Millán or Arrabal Mayor, the center of the old Morería and which was the most beautiful in the city, is located in the southwest of the city. It was perfectly preserved until, at the beginning of the century, it was adulterated without any urban respect. Fortunately, the church of San Millán survived, which is not only one of the best temples in the city, but also one of the Spanish Romanesque, declared a National Monument on June 3, 1931.
San Millán is the largest Romanesque church in the city of Segovia
To access it, you have to go to the Plaza del Azoguejo and walk along the wide pedestrian avenue of Fernández Ladreda. On your right is this magnificent building.
The temple of San Millán, next to the church of the Monastery of Santa María la Real de Sacramenia, is the one with the greatest monumentality of the Segovian Romanesque, reaching cathedral dimensions, as evidenced by its 50 meters in length, and twenty meters in height up to the dome of the transept.
If we except the arcaded galleries, added years later, it reproduces the construction scheme of the Cathedral of Jaca. Its construction would take place, therefore, between 1111 and 1126, during the reign in Castile of the Aragonese Alfonso I el Batallador. Later it underwent some additions in the thirteenth century and reforms in the seventeenth, being restored twice, the first in 1949 by the architects Cabello and Ladrada and the second, decades later.
It has a floor plan of three naves separated by semicircular arches that ride, in the manner of the seo jaquesa, on cruciform pillars with attached semi-columns alternating with large free-standing columns.

Taken from a fair distance for a whole church in sight.
The ancient church looks well preserved and must be a big edifice as scaled by the people alongside's. Fine outcome.

Hola Luis! My TE neighbor today!
A wonderful blue sky backdrop with good sharpness and framing. The warm reddish brown colours of the building's exterior contrast well with the blue sky too. Tfs!

Hello Luis,
A beautiful church in a style I like very much. We are shown a fine detail in the WS and get a good view of the entire church in the main photo. As always it's useful to have a few persons included, but most important are the fine colours and the good light.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Luis, a beautiful building taken from a good angle.
The people give us a good idea of the scale.
The sunlight enhanced the honeyed tones of the stonework.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Luis,
This is a beautiful old building, which you captured from a good angle. I like the smaller arches on the left hand side as well as the tower above the higher parts. Great lighting and a nice, blue sky.

Hola Luis,
Beautiful church, I think it is the same as you showed previously but from this angle it looks so different. Some elements of the architecture are more pronounced on this side. Great light and resulting colors. Pleasant asymmetric composition.
Excellent work,
M
