While my wife and I were waiting for a great friend, who came from Madrid to Salamanca to spend the day with us, there was called my attention the great group of storks that had their nests in the towers of Fonseca's Palace. I took several photos, and I have chosen this one, a close-up on these birds, one of which is standing with one of its legs over the stone cross of the tower, while other two feed their babies.

I used the zoom to approach them, and I liked the result.

In WS, a scene taken during our pleasant and intense stroll along the beautiful city of Salamanca, near The Clergy.

I dedicate these photos to LUIS, who in a couple of days initiates a fantastic trip in Greece. Good trip, my friend.


Information on Fonseca's Palace: This college was founded by don Alonso de Fonseca and Acebedo, son of don Alonso de Fonseca, patriarch of Alexandria, and of dona Maria de Ulloa, lady of Cambados.

In the construction of this college the best architects and Spanish sculptors intervened, obtaining an architectural very beautiful set. The masters in charge of the tracing were: Diego de Siloé and Pedro de Ibarra, taking the direction of the works Juan of Alava, beginning these in the year 1528 and it was inaugurated in 1578. The front of the building gets up on a porch with stairs, where it call the attention by its color, because of the contrast between the granitic grey stones and Villamayor's golden stone.

They form the set: the columns, the door, Fonseca's shields, the effigies of both Fonseca archbishops, the medallion with the apostle Santiago in Clavijo's battle, the shells and other ornamental Renaissance elements. Its forms show a Greek-Roman trend.

Important parts are: The Chapel (Gothic style), the altarpiece of the major altar, work of Alonso Berruguete, the courtyard and the Hostelry of the College.

Mientras mi esposa y yo esperábamos a un gran amigo, quien vino desde Madrid a Salamanca para pasar el día con nosotros, me llamó la atención el gran grupo de cigüeñas que tenían sus nidos en las torres del Palacio de Fonseca. Tomé varias fotos, y he escogido ésta, un plano corto sobre estas aves, una de las cuales está de pie con una de sus patas sobre la cruz de piedra de la torre, mientras las otras dos alimentan a sus crías.

Utilicé el zoom para acercarme a ellas, y me gustó el resultado.

En el WS, una escena tomada durante nuestro agradable e intenso paseo por la bella ciudad de Salamanca, cerca de La Clerecía.

Estas fotos se las dedico a LUIS, que dentro de un par de días inicia un fantástico viaje en Grecia. Buen viaje, amigo.

Información sobre el Palacio de Fonseca: Este colegio lo fundó don Alonso de Fonseca y Acebedo, hijo de don Alonso de Fonseca, patriarca de Alejandría y de doña María de Ulloa, señora de Cambados.

En la construcción de este colegio intervinieron los mejores arquitectos y escultores españoles, consiguiendo un conjunto arquitectónico muy bello. Los maestros encargados del trazado fueron: Diego de Siloé y Pedro de Ibarra, llevando la dirección de las obras Juan de Álava, iniciándose éstas en el año 1528 y fue inaugurado en 1578. La fachada del edificio se levanta sobre un atrio con escaleras, llamando la atención su colorido, por el contraste entre las piedras graníticas grises y la piedra dorada de Villamayor.

Forman el conjunto: las columnas, la puerta, los escudos de Fonseca, las efigies de los dos arzobispos Fonseca, el medallón con el apóstol Santiago en la batalla de Clavijo, las conchas y demás elementos ornamentales renacentistas. Sus formas muestran una tendencia greco-romana.

Partes importantes son: La Capilla (estilo gótico), el retablo del altar mayor obra de Alonso Berruguete, el patio y la Hospedería del Colegio.
