Photographer's Note

The second shot about sheep (here the other).

Like I said in the last photo: the sheep arrive until the horizont.

But, what means these sheep?. Now, a little lesson of history.
Castile was, in the Medieval periode, the most populate reign of the Iberian peninsula.
Also there was Portugal, Navarra and Aragon (Aragon was three reigns: Aragon, a human desert, Valencia a reign with a 40% of islamic population and Catalonia, the reign where there was the worst demographic crisis). And also there was an islamic reign (since 1240 only the nazari reign of Granada, with Muhammad I).

The economy of all the Christians reigns was agriculturist. But when we say agriculturist, we want say farmer.
Between the 12th and 13th century appears in Castile a new kind of economic activity: the Mesta. The Mesta, was the transhumancia (sorry, I don’t know how is in english), were the shepherds with thousands of sheep, and many of that sheep belonged to the aristocracy.
Since 1300 there will be many changes. First appears the “merina” ewe, a better kind of ewe: I mean better wool. Second, the war between England and France (the war of the 100 years): England lost his wool’s market, market that won Castile: Flandes. And third: the big crisis of 1348; the Mesta needed less people than work the fields, then if the big crisis of 1348 caused a big lost of population: the Mesta was a great solution.
If in 1300 there was 1’5 milions of sheep, in 1500 there were five milions!. As you can see, since 1300 there was a lot of changes.

The result of all this: Castile became the first exporter of wool. Castile only manufactured near of the 20% of his wool. The rest? All to Flandes. The result? Castile had a lot benefits of his commerce, but with the time Castile learnt that had lost a great opportunity: never thought and never learnt to create something with that wool. Sold the wool, and bought again the wool after be manufacturated (but much more expensive). The reason? The monarchy had a great benefits with the taxes, and then forced to export the 80% of the wool.

If someone want know how finishes this story: in Flandes was born the first capitalist state of the world, and in Castile the industrialization began only 50 years ago.
Obviously: now the Mesta doesn’t exist.
