Photographer's Note

This old breakwater belongs to south dock and main entrance to the port of Laredo, in the north coast of Spain. 43║ 24,90' N - 3 ║ 25,00' W

This harbor was built between 1873 and 1884 and finished enterily in the first years of the Second Republic in Spain under the supervision of A. Garelly de la Camara Engineer, who built several ports along the north coast of Spain from Cantabria to Galicia.

Due to the constant featuring sandbanks entering the basin that caused problems on low tides and won┤t permitted entering big sailing ships and boats with big keels, and due also to new manners and much users in maritime sports activities a new port was necesary to be built and so it is. Both ports will coexist as to preserve the identity of the old whale hunters┤ and from then on fishermen city.
