Photographer's Note

'The angel and the lion', a statue that I saw inside the Mezquita, Cordoba.
We see lions portrayed in so many pictures and statues, each has its own individual character, and I just loved the expression on the face of this particular lion!

Cordoba's great mosque, dating back 12 centuries, embodied the power of Islam on the Iberian peninsula.

Abd al Rahman built the original mosque between 785 and 787. The building evolved over the centuries blending many architectural forms.
In the 16th century a cathedral was built in the heart of the reconsecrated mosque, part of which was destroyed.

Another shot in the w/s from the exterior wall.

Thanks for looking.
