Photographer's Note

Right in the middle of the sylvan Julian Alps of Slovenia lies a blue lake with a single island seemingly floating in it with a quaint steeple pointing skywards from it. Like everything else in this gem of a country, this lake's environs are refreshingly verdant. Lake Bled is located around 55 km from Ljubljana, the capital. The church of the Assumption of Mary couldn't have been built in a better setting. It is easily accessible by wooden row boats that dot the edges of the lake.

Bled also has a castle that is dramatically perched on a hill near the town and not far away (around 3 km) is the Vintgar gorge with deep blue water gushing through it.

This photograph was taken from Osojnica hill just as the sun was setting.
