Photographer's Note

A visit to the old town of Vlkolinec, now a Unesco world heritage site, is a real step back in time.

Consequently, buildings are constructed just like they have been for centuries.

Apart from the modern concrete foundations, factory made double glazed window units, the gap filling expanding foam, the wind-proof roof felt of course !

This detail of the corner construction shows a timeless technique using dovetails, that can be seen throughout the village.

As an amateur enthusiast for such things it was like a little bit of heaven on earth.
