Photographer's Note

Bigar Waterfall, illuminated by the headlights of my car.

Bigar waterfall is located on Stara Mountain, on the stream Bukovski Do, a few kilometers south of Kalna towards Pirot. The waterfall is about 35 meters high and is also represents the confluence with the Stanjanska River. Bigar is named after the stone that is easy and perforated. The waterfall is protected as a treasure of nature. The water from the waterfall is drinkable. A few hundred yards upstream there is the monastery of St. Onuphrius, dating from 13 century.

Stanjinska River valley is a true oasis of untouched nature which hides several more attractions. Upstream of the Bigar waterfall there are smaller waterfalls, and three pools of clear mountain water. Little is known about them, because this area is inaccessible and sparsely populated.

Riverbed of the Stanjinska River cuts through the limestone rocks and represents extraordinary sculptural nature’s master piece.
