Photographer's Note

Front yard of the Peles Castle.
Peleş Castle ranks as one of the most exquisite castles anywhere. Photography inside the castle is not allowed, unfortunately, but just imagine intricately carved woods and marbles, providing a rich, welcoming interplay of light and dark (without ever devolving into tackiness), and you'll be halfway there. Peleş is nestled in the forests of the Southern Carpathians, just above and beyond the town of Sinaia. Its history is tied to that of Romania and the Romanian kings.
Is one of the most representative museums of Romania was built between 1883-1914 and conceived as a summer residence for the first King of Romania, Carol the 1-th of Hohenzollern - Sigmaringen (1866-1914).
The first architects Wilhelm Doderer from Wien, and Johannes Schultz from Lvov , gave to the castle the features of the German Renaissance style: vertical and sharp profiles, asymetry of the corps, abundance of carved wood and integration into the landscape. The official inauguration took place on October the 7th 1883.
