Photographer's Note

Maramuresh is one of the most beautiful and virgin corner of Romania (northern Romania). There one can find small charming villages with wooden houses, beautiful wooden gates with ornaments, wooden old orthodox churches (from XII, XIII century) usually situated on a small hill and surrounded by cemetery of wooden crosses. People living there are very friendly, curious about others. I was invited to many wooden houses especially by old people who are really open and keen on meeting other people what does not happen to them very often. Once you entered a house of an old nice married couple you will not be let out without trying their homemade product - fruit vodka and for example been's soup (ciorba de fasole) and some sweets and of course without telling your life story. Although they were only speaking Romanian and my Romanian was at the very basic level it did not discourage us to lead a nice chat. Since the buses go very seldom in this area the best way is to hitchhike (what is not something strange to them since they also do it giving some money to the driver). I was walking on foot from one village to another or hitchhiking.
