Photographer's Note

Budesti is a small village situated in the heart of the historical Maramures region. Here, the rural traditions are still living on. Even though this might be a necessity, it looks pictoresque and interesting for visitors. This is a view, that I was surprised to find when walking around the local (overgrown) cemetery around the UNESCO protected village wooden church. All around the church is its large cemetery and around it there are traditional wooden houses, enclosed with wooden fences, covered with wooden shingles, having wooden portals etc. Everything is made of wood and people are living as their ancestors have been, probably for centuries. Just a few recent utilities have reached them.

The region receives a lot of rain, so it is very green and a lot of vegetation is growing around, consequently the views are more intimate and less panoramic.
