Photographer's Note
The reconstructed torture chamber in the Hunedoara Castle Dungeon. Wasn't sure whether to call this 'Just hanging around' or 'Another tortuous day'. Western Romania was ruled by the Austro Hungarian Empire for hundreds of years. I'd imagine you would have to do something pretty serious to be strung up like this. There is a similar chamber of horrors adjacent to the Vitus Cathedral in Prague Castle. A bit kitschy perhaps, but gives us an insight into how justice used to operate a few centuries ago. There was no appeal system on human rights to the United Nations back then!

Bonjour Chris,
Cette chambre de torture représente l'aspect de la justice qui existait dans plusieurs pays, il y a très longtemps. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de l'appareil de torture. La lumière environnante a un bel effet sur les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.

OMG Chris, this looks horrendous! You have really captured the sense of violent torture!
The shadow of the suspended figure makes it appear that his life is draining from his body!
He may not have done anything really serious!
It could be a way of securing information!
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Chris,
Honestly, this is more funny than terrifying. Kitsch often makes me smile. I doubt they would have to do anything "pretty serious" even hundreds of years ago to be punished like this.

Gert

Hello Chris,
This torture chamber looks horrible, but the museum manages to bring it back to life very well and vividly with that body hanging from the ceiling by a rope. Good and clear photo with fine warm tones.

Hi Chris,
A pretty gruesome scene, but then castle dungeons were not there to make people feel good. Life was pretty cruel back then, although it's pretty cruel for a lot of people now. A good indoor photo with good sharpness.

Hi Chris,
I love both your titles, just hanging around! That made me laugh. Somebody was very creative while decorating this museum, one image tells more than thousands words, ha ha
I actually don't know why I am laughing it is indeed quite a terrible sight.
Very interesting reportage,

Hi Chris
I've been to a few of these torture chambers around the world during my travels...if I see one...I enter :) its such a great history lesson on human behaviour - as bad as it is. How we treat eachother is quite astonishing when you really think about it. No other species does this. cool scene, glad you posted it
cheers

I use to imagine and feel the pain of people in such scenes and I ever avoided to visit this kind of museums. I guess there was one very terrible in peru.. reading the history of catholic saints is ever a nice way to see how creative the ancient people were to create pain in the others.. here in brazil criminals are treated like poor children by the laws, the ones who work and pay taxes are the real criminals as say some politicians who love our money...
take care
jorge
