Sucevita monastery paintings, a photo from Suceava, East

Photographer's Note

In the Sucevița monastery both the interior and exterior walls are covered by wall paintings, of great artistic value and describing biblical episodes from the Old and New Testaments. The paintings date from around 1601, making Sucevița one of the last monasteries to be decorated in the famous Moldovan style of exterior paintings.

In 2010, the monastery church was inscribed by UNESCO on its list of World Heritage Sites, as one of the painted churches of Moldova.

En el monasterio de Sucevița tanto los muros interiores como exteriores están cubiertos por pinturas murales, de gran valor artístico y que describen episodios bíblicos del Antiguo Testamento y del Nuevo Testamento. Las pinturas datan de alrededor de 1601, que convierten a Sucevița en uno de los últimos monasterios en ser decorado en el famoso estilo moldavo de pinturas exteriores.

En 2010, la iglesia del monasterio fue inscrita por la UNESCO en su lista de Sitios de Patrimonio Mundial, como una de las iglesias pintadas de Moldavia.

Hello Luis,
The light was clearly difficult here, so there are some overexposed areas mainly to the right. But the central parts and the ceiling are perfect and show us marvellous paintings with fine colours.

Colorful fresco paitings all over the walls and ceiling, vividly collected, Luis.
Outside light had in effect, ruined a bit the walls as we can see on the open to the side arches.
Nonetheless, a fine take.

The wall paintings are amazing here and very colourful and appealing covering every part of the arches, walls and vaults. The light was challenging, but you did a good job.

podemos ver como as paredes estão totalmente cobertas de pequenos murais diferentes, bem parecido com o que eu vi na Rússia, mas aqui me parece que as pinturas estão muito bem preservadas e sem danos aparentes. muito boa a foto.

Hello Luis, I was also in this monastery complex but had no time to show any photos. Stunning paintings in this interior, so typical to Orthodox churches. I love them. There are some overexposed parts on the right side, never mind, the presentation is beautiful. One can recognize many scenes, like the angels on the ladder, also shown very often.

We have to gasp in amazement at the interior of this monastery. The detailed precision of these colourful, divided, wall murals is exquisite! Though the light was a difficult problem for you, streaming in on the right, for the most part, the details are sharp and the colours deeply saturated.

Every surface seems to be painted, and
the pictures are delightful.

Good subject matter with interest packed by exquisite details and colours of this luminous interior. Quite challenging as far as light is concerned as you can see there's lack of definition on the hot spot areas of the pillars. This somehow distracts the whole capture. Less by half a-stop exposure still works fine imho, and this is my sincere critiques. Nice shot anyway

Hola Luis,
this is very impressive indeed. It must have taken a lot of work to paint every little fragment of the wall..
The weather was not optimal with some white diffracted light coming in but you dealt very well with it and the final effect is fantastic.
