Photographer's Note
Stephen the Great, the king (in Romanian Domnitor) of Moldavia from 1457 until his death in 1504, fought 36 battles against the Ottoman Empire, winning 34 of them. He was very religious and built churches after many victories. [Citation needed] Stephen's illegitimate son, Petru Rareș, who ruled Moldova from 1527 to 1538 and again between 1541 and 1546, fostered a new vision for the churches of Bucovina. He hired artists to cover the interiors and exteriors with elaborate frescoes (portraits of saints and prophets, scenes from the life of Jesus).
The Moldovita monastery is part of the group of painted churches, a World Heritage Site according to Unesco.
Protected by an enclosure of walls more than one meter thick and five meters high, it follows the pattern that Esteban the Great designed to protect this type of religious center.
Like the rest of the temples in the Bucovina region, the beauty emanates from the frescoes that decorate the exterior of the church, colorful and vivid, reflecting biblical and historical scenes, functioning as a visual evangelizer.
Restoration work has made it possible to recover part of the frescoes, which were deteriorated due to weathering. Those of the northern part that staged the life of the Virgin or Saint Nicholas are quite damaged, while those of the south whose theme is the Asaí tree or the Hymn of the Virgin Mary maintain the ocher and bluish tones that made them famous.
Inside the church the grandeur of Romanian art is evident. The Last Judgment occupies a large part of the pictorial representation, the dome being a "canvas" where the architectural forms mold the frescoed bodies.

What a beautiful monastery with amazing paintings on the outer walls. They look beautiful with their bright colours in this fine light. The building itself is very charming also with its small tower and is located in a pleasant green landscape.

Hello Luis,
I think this may be the most famous church in Romania. It is truly fantastic for its architecture and even more for its wall paintings filling the entire façade. The nice surroundings mean much for the impression it makes. In this case you were also blessed with a fine light and a reasonable number of other visitors to animate the view.
Kind regards,
Gert

Ola Luis,
As cores e o céu formam belos contrastes aqui. Belo trabalho. Muito boa nitidez e apresentação.
Parabéns

Hello Luis,
beautiful view of the Moldovita church. Is it not amazing that these outside frescoes are preserved so well? A nice composition with some people going around. Moldavite is perhaps the best example of these painted church listed in UNESCO.
very good sharpness, the colours are nice too but they seem a bit too saturated.
Have a nice new week

Hola Luis,
This is a remarkable building, both for its design and for its external decorations. It is absolutely stunning!
The sunlight was perfect for illuminating the external walls and revealing their bright, continuous paintings.
You have angled the scene well, so that we can appreciate the shape of this beautiful building, see its central tower and the conical roofs, crowned by crosses.
The figures assist in scaling the building as well as supplying human interest.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hola Luis,
this is so beautiful! I must go and visit Romania someday! Beautiful architecture. What I find striking is that usually these churches seem to be richly painted inside and here it looks as if it was turned inside out with all the paintings around.
Great weather day as well with lovely clouds in the sky well contributed to the beauty of the image.
Very impressive capture, I like also the presence of people which help us to realize how big the church is.
Excellent reportage,
M
