Photographer's Note

Today a close up of Jesus Christ statue that is palced in Almada.
The statue of Cristo-Rei (Christ the King), overlooking the city of Lisbon, portrays the Sacred Heart inviting all of humanity to come to him through love.
This monument bears witness to the love and acceptance of Christ the King by the Portuguese people. It also marks the fulfilment of a solemn promise made by Portugal and by the Church at a time when there was grave danger of the Portuguese becoming involved in war (World War II).
The four arches that support the pedestal symbolize the four points of the compass and remind us of the universal sovereignty of Christ.
