Photographer's Note

Photo taken in the pontoon of Alcochete during the low tide. The 2 boats on the picture are Alcatejo & Fernando V.

About Alcatejo:

Constructed in Aveiro, in 1940, under the name of "Cândido Abílio", the "Alcatejo" - typical boat of the river Tejo - was acquired by the City council of Alcochete in 1987.

The 12 of August of 1989, the City council proceeded to the inauguration of the boat, giving it with the name that today exhibits.

Constituting a good example of preservation of the cultural patrimony, the "Alcatejo" comes carrying through, since July of 1989, strolls in the Tejo - throughout all the marginal zone of Alcochete until Lisbon -, providing, beyond the pleasant tourist trips of recreation and leisure, the knowledge of the characteristics of the old boats of long ago and the practical ones of navigation.

Decorated with traditional flowers, reasons and colored bars, the "Alcatejo", fully decorated, it's one of the main atractions of the night Procession for Sea (and Land) in Honor of Ours Lady of the Life, that occurs in the traditional Parties of the Barrete Verde e das Salinas of Alcochete.

About Fernando V:

Fernando V it's a small frigate that it's keeped alive by his private ower. As you can see here he really takes care of it.

P.S. This image was composed of two photos (joined vertically), because unfortunelly my "not so good camera" was unable to catch all what i want in one shot.

Regards from Portugal,
Be well
