Photographer's Note

Faial, Santana.

Re-post in a larger format, according everybody's advice. Click right and then choose "view image".

On the heights of Faial, a lookout allows us to admire the northern coast of Madeira towards the east. In the background, you can see the Ponta São Lourenço (Pointe Saint Laurent), the eastern end of the island.

The village of Faial, subdivision of the municipality (or more precisely the freguesia, civil parish) of Santana, is dominated by the Penha de Aguia (Eagle Rock). A curious name when we know that no eagle lives on the island! At the foot of this relief, there is a karting circuit, which takes a significant place considering the limited space in the valley.

Panoramic view composed of 7 photos.

In WS, the belvedere to the north offers a much less deep view, but nevertheless pretty with the agapanthus in the foreground. I still had to erase an ugly electrical wire running through the image from side to side.
