Photographer's Note

In the north of Portugal the organized bathing season starts a little later then in the south (the Algarve) where things are allready in full swing in mid June. This pic was shot in Arcozelo (a freguesia of Vila Nova de Gaia) on "Praia da Senhor da Pedra" (Pedra da Senhor is a lovey chapel build on a rock formation on the beach). The owners of the beach concessions were busy assembling the beach huts and other beach infrastructure such as movable boardwalks.

Like most beach huts, these ones will be used for storage and changing of cloths. Ofcourse the wooden skeletons will be covered first, with striped (blue and white) canvas. Beach huts hark back to the early days of beach culture, when the beach clothing covered almost all of the body and the changing of cloths took place in closed wooden huts, either stationary or on a horse cart.

In a workshop I added an image with some huts allready covered with the white and blue canvas.
