This is the building of City Hall. The building of City Hall in addition to its architectural and artistic value, reflects the image of Lisbon and Portugal Liberal Regenerator and Republican. Important events in our history, as the Proclamation of the Republic on 5 October 1910, were deeply involved in this building.

After the earthquake of 1755, during the reconstruction revisits the building was built the Town Hall in the current location of, this architectural design signed by the architect Eugene Carvalho dos Santos, which was completely destroyed due to a fire on 19 November 1863.

It was built a new building on the same site between 1865 and 1880, whose work took place based on a design concept of the responsibility of the architect then camarário Parente Domingues da Silva, and the design of the facade of the shot changed by decision of the Engineer Ressano Garcia, responsible for Technical Services of the House, giving rise to large pediment with classical sculptural decoration of the French sculptor Anatole Calmels. The inside is the work of the architect José Luís Monteiro, especially in the central staircase, and the rich pictorial decoration in charge of various artists, which seek to José Pereira Júnior (Pereira Cao), Columbanus and Malhoa This will allow all building a joint high-profile players, both architectural and constructive, as decorative, with an aesthetic and innovation of high quality.

The Town Hall, so are a work of the architect Domingos Parente da Silva, Calmels sculptor, architect José Luís Monteiro, Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro, Pereira Cao Malhoa, among others, who were joined by the names of those with respect for the work of its predecessors and with the same sensitivity and culture, not only made possible the restoration of damaged works of art, paintings, of plaster, the masonry and statuary, but also the emergence of a new architecture that now incorporates and values the building
