Photographer's Note

Seeing a deer in the wild hasn't happened to me many times. As far as I know they are very shy and rare in Portugal. As a matter of fact, I thought they didn't exist in Alentejo until I saw a couple of them some years ago while hiking not very far from this place. After that, I have spotted such animals in three or four occasions, but always in places where people seldom pass and far from any road. So I was very surprised when I spotted this one while I was driving in a tertiary road near the Spanish border. I stopped the car despite I was almost certain that they would run away before I had time to take my camera out of the bag. That didn't happen. They stopped about 100 meters from me, trying to decide if their will to cross the road in front of me was stronger than their fear. I turn my back on them and walked away a bit, hoping to make them a bit more confident. Very quickly, the one you see here crossed the road and disappeared in the forest, but his/her companion (which you can see in the WS) hadn't the courage to follow him/her.

I am aware that it's not such a good photo. I am not used to shoot such quick scenes, the light was scarce and a longer focal would have been handy, but I'd like to share with you one of my rare photos of wild life that I processed some weeks ago, despite having been shot a year ago.

PS: I have been practically inactive lately. I have less free time, but I confess that I also feel like taking a rest for a while. However, probably this pause won't last much more. I hope you forgive me for having broken it with a post instead of catching up with the critiques. :D
