Photographer's Note

The Castle of Sesimbra is to an altitude of 240m, in the top of a mountain of a hill where if it sights the sea and part of the Village, provided of walls where it lodges the Church of Saint Maria. Sesimbra is belongs to the district of Setúbal.O Castle of Sesimbra is characterized by little being provided and was taken by D. Afonso Enriques after the Conquest of Palmela. In 1190 before the notice of the conquest of Alcácer of the Salt and fast advance of the army of Califo of the Almoado, the Castle was arrasado in 1200, D. Sancho I proceeds á its reconstruction and in 1201 the King makes use the Castle to the Order of Sant'Iago. In the beginning of century XIV D. Dinis he goes to effect improvements in the Castle, however in 1384 aquando the wall the Lisbon of the Castilians led to the destruction of the Castle and the robery of valuable goods. In century XV the Castle goes being gradually abandoned and per the year of 1516 the building already in an advanced one was been of deterioration. Terramoto of 1755 contributed still more for the ruin. However in 1930/40 the taken interventions the handle for the New State had the Castle of Sesimbra as an intervention point. The access to the Castle is made by a rip in the wall.
