The Church of Our Lady of the Cape is located in Cape Espichel municipality of Sesimbra, parish of Castelo, Distrito de Setúbal. Built in the eighteenth century is in front to the sea. Inside the church emphasizes the illusionistic ceiling painting perspective painted by Lorenzo da Cunha, second order of D. John V in 1740, the only remains of this artist in the whole country

In the chapel of the temple - which includes ten altars offered by the "círios" or pilgrims of Lisbon, Almada, Palmela, Sesimbra, Caparica, Azeitão Arrentela / Amora and the "círios saloios" - saves the old image Our Lady of the Cape, whose discovery in the promontory was the basis of a popular cult that has spread to both banks of the Tagus, with documents recorded since 1366 in a charter of King Peter I.

Along with the buildings of Hostels for the pilgrims, one of the Water House and its Aqueduct, an opera house and the Memory Chapel - built in the promontory of the cliff, where you would have been found the image - the Church of Our Lady Cape is part of the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Pedra Mua.
