Photographer's Note

Monte da Lua (Mount of the moon, literally) is one of the several existing parks in Sintra. It is a beautiful one, with fantastic vegetation and lakes. This is the first of them, when you enter the park. The sun was really strong, so it was difficult to take this one, but I think at least it allows you to see another very nice place of my country!
At the entrance you have a tablet saying this:
"This park was born from the attempt of Dom Fernando II to recreate a cross between a tropical environment and the great German forests (his country of origin). The Artist King achieved an almost impossible feat, in bringing together species from desert, tropical, European and Asian climates, and mixing them with Mediterranean plant species. The key architectural feature of the park is the Palácio da Pena (Pena Palace), a structure of rare beauty inspired by opera settings and distant landscapes..."
