Photographer's Note

Photo from 'Panteao Nacional'. This monument placed in 'S. Vicente de Fora' quarter was builded between the XVII and XX centuries, and hosts the tombs of several individual portuguese personalities (such as former presidents Teofilo Braga, Sidonio Pais and Oscar Carmona, fado's diva Amalia Rodrigues, writers Almeida Garrett and Guerra Junqueiro). The primitive church was ordered to be built by D.Maria and was projected by architect Joao de Frias, but felt down in 1681 and so the nobles from the era were forced to rebuilt an ever bigger and sumptuous church (this one projected by architect Joao Antunes), but he was dead and the works were far from end, it took so long that the church now elevated to 'Panteao Nacional' was only finished on the XX century under the orders of of architects Raul Lino and Lyster Franco. Although all the delays that happened, the original project was respected and so was born the first portuguese church truly barroque style.
This monument can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday between 10h00 and 17h00.
Between 'Mosteiro de São Vicente' and 'Panteao Nacional', we can fool around on Saturdays at 'Feira da Ladra', a typical fair where almost everything can be bought.
