Photographer's Note

This is a wall of the Museu de Arte Popular (Folk Art Museum), which is closed since many years and no one knows when it will open again, if it ever does. The building is one of the last remains of a big expo that happen in the 1940's to glorify the 'Portuguese Empire'. I guess that only an autistic dictatorship like the one that ruled them would choose to make a big expo when there was a nasty world war going on.

The area is a popular weekend destination for locals and much frequented by tourists that come here to enjoy the views to the river, the gardens and the various important monuments located in the are, like the Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the Discoveries), Belém Tower, the Jerónimos Monastery and the more recent Belém Cultural Center.

WS's: B&W version and a view from the top of the nearby Padrão dos Descobrimentos.
