Photographer's Note

Lisbon is often called the “white city” due to the predominance of this color on most of the buildings. The expression became even more wide spread after Alan Tanner’s film “In the White City”.

Like the sailor on the film, I do like to wander around the city without a clear destination. On my last “trip” I took my camera and did some kind of urban photo safari.

At the Santa Luzia Belvedere, while shooting wide towards the river, I noticed the chaotic roof tops of the Alfama district. Zoomed in and tried to capture those patches of red against the white walls. It’s hard to imagine that all those buildings have some kind of street or alley serving them.
