The station Olaias, one of the seven stations belonging to the 1st grade of Line D(Eastern Line) was inaugurated on 19 May 1998.

The architect Tomás Taveira was responsible for architectural design, this invitation of the Metropolitan allowed him to intervene again in a place whose urban structure has played an important role.

The station is underlain by a higher court and the nature of the pier with the main feature of this being an area which gives a lush multicolored special ambience. Throughout all the finishes have been subject of considerable attention, and the architect himself contributed to an intervention consisting of ten plastic art lamps, metal and acrylic, and a metal sculpture located next to the panoramic lift and comes in the form of a fish.

The topography of the site imposed contingencies to the constructive process that gave rise to some architectural peculiarities, such as the huge right foot at the pier that allowed the deployment of a monumental colonnade. The output of the tunnel station Olaias towards East season ends in a viaduct over the valley of Chelas. This bridge was the target of a plastic action by António Palolo. For the outer lining of the guards this bridge, the artist has designed a set of decorative panels in colors and with the intention of providing a sequential read. The panels were performed at the Factory widow Lamego. This aesthetic intervention, in addition to reducing the environmental impact is a further enriching the landscape of the site.

Contributed to enrich the space of this station four artists:

Pedro Cabrita Reis, whose participation is made up of a sculpture in metal plate painted black and white, called "Ascension", which is reflected in the lobby, it is a staircase that provides the customer with the Metro a "symbolic ascent," a where converge own stairs and escalators from the station.

Graça Pereira Coutinho designed for the four walls of access platforms, covering a bas-relief representing sandy textured handprints that symbolize the movement of the passage by the local human - the individuality of each one.

Pedro Calapez contributed a ceramic mural for the lobby. This panel was built in two thicknesses, a feature that allows a reading in relief; in the words of artist seem to "get out of the wall."

Rui Sanchez devised an operational platform for a sculpture in steel with a surface treatment which gives it a rusty appearance. The author claimed that this work will constitute an unusual presence, powerful and yet discreet, a perfect integration into the environment and may even pass through one structural element.
