Photographer's Note

Lezirão is another Avieiras Villages (fishing villages of the river) situated on the right bank of the Tagus river in the county of Azambuja
The typical village of Lezirão is a well preserved village which preserves the collective memory of these fishermen one day left Vieira de Leiria and settled on the banks of the River Tagus. In the early twentieth century and until the 1960s, several fishermen of Vieira de Leiria and Aveiro - who staged the last great migratory movement of the last century in Portugal - down to the banks of the Tagus and Sado rivers in an attempt to find better conditions fishing opportunities and more.
In these villages the houses are made of wood, painted in bright colors and based on cuttings, so as to be protected from frequent flooding of the river. The particularity of the two houses is extended to their fishing boats also in wood and painted with bright colors.
